With summer temperatures soaring, Tesla owners are getting some interesting advice on how to charge their vehicles faster in the heat. According to the Internet, wrapping a wet towel around Supercharger cable handles when it’s hot out will make the car charge faster.
The theory is that the damp towel tricks the charger’s temperature sensors, since the cables have temperature protection but the handles can get very hot when in direct sunlight on a warm day. But Tesla says this is a bad idea that doesn’t work and can prevent true charging issues from being detected.
“Placing a wet cloth on Supercharger cable handles does not increase charging rates and interferes with temperature monitors, creating risk of overheating or damage,” the company said in a post on X asking users to refrain from doing so.
