“He has served as the director of technology for the city and county of Honolulu for nearly 12 years,” said Humber in an email. “We have just begun the process of looking for our next CIO.”
Wong has been instrumental in turning to technology when looking for cost savings. For example, several years ago his department designed and built kiosks to be used by residents for tasks like payments to City Hall, resulting in reduced staffing needs.
“The CIO will play a pivotal role in advancing the city’s information technology capabilities, overseeing critical IT initiatives, and ensuring the efficient and secure operation of our technology infrastructure. This strategic leader will collaborate closely with executive leadership to align technology strategies with the city’s goals and objectives,” the job description reads.
